Workforce Virtualization and Payroll Complexities

For decades, workers have been driving toward flexible work arrangements. As technology evolved, it gave employees the freedom to work from almost anywhere. While remote work was already becoming more common, the pandemic forced much of the world to pivot to work from home—almost overnight. Now, valued employees and contractors might want to work from locations where the employer may not have payroll and benefit capabilities. While this “workforce revolution” gives workers the freedom they want, employers may be incurring risks if they don’t abide by federal, state, and local laws.
